FAQ

FireP4j

Will there be a native Java port?
When the final version of FireP4j is released, I’m thinking about a Java port of the library. But for now, finishing the Groovy library will be focused.

.NET Drone control

When will there be a release of the drone library?
We’re working on the “When it’s done” principle.

    Hi Thomas,
(I saw I was missing a sentence- so I posted again, sorry)

Thank you very much for your response before.
You wrote that the AR drone 2 uses a different image processing algorithm.
For our project we do not want to use anything involving image processing. For now, our goal is to successfully connect our program with AR drone 2 and send it some basic commands(takeOff, land etc).

I realize you are no longer working on the drone library
but since you are much more familiar with the code, I wanted to consult with you again.
As I wrote before, using your solution I was able to connect with ARdrone 1 but not with AR drone 2. – I get a pop up window saying The network is not available, It seems to me that its not because of the image processing algorithm. Do you know if Parrot changed something else that could affect the connecting process? would you suggest to try and find a different source to work with or do you think we could change a bit your solution to make it work?

    Thanks a lot!
    I Truly appreciate your help.

  3. I’m currently NOT working for the drone library, so don’t expect this issue to be resolved anytime soon. The problem is that Parrot keeps updating their API every month or so and it is very difficult to keep up.

I see that you just responded to a comment, so are you still active in this project? I’m getting conflicting reports on whether or not you code works properly on the 2.0 version of the drone, due to algorithm implementation. Did you get this sorted, or is it still an issue?

  5. Hi Jamil,

I already tried to work with the Kinect, a few months ago. First of all, you need to define a new input in the ARDrone Input library. Don’t care about the mappings atm, all you need is a registered input controller. Then, you can emit events whenever you register a significant change in the user pose.

I hope this helps you out.

  6. Hi there. I’m afraid this is a general problem. The AR drone 2 uses another image processing algorithm, so the algorithm used by my library does not work anymore. But I must tell you that I definitely don’t have the time to rewrite the library, atm. I’m sorry.

Hi, I have a problem connecting with AR.Drone 2.0 where as with AR.Drone 1.0 it has no problem. As far as i know I’ve downloaded the newest version. Do you have an idea what the problem might be ?

    Thanks!

    Hi Thomas

I am using the .net version of the ardrone control, I would like to add my kinetic sensor to the solution. do you have any tips or links to point me in the right direction.

    thanks much appreciation.

Everything works fine on an AR Drone2 except the video. Neither camera works and it shows a framerate of 0. All other flight commands work fine. Is there something different with ver2 Drone video?

    Thanks

I just installed the binary version in Windows 7 after installing Windows SDK and DirectX SDK. It appears to work really well, although I do get some periodic crashes. If I can duplicate them, I’ll post them here.

Thank you for developing and sharing the software.

    Best Regards,

    Hi Thomas,

Thanks for notifying me on site updates regarding your very interesting new drone control library.

    Best regards

  14. You can download the source code here.

There is no need for a developer license, the only thing you need is a working copy of Visual Studio 2010 (not Visual C#).

Everything else is described in the source code readme.

  15. Edward says:

I use the AR.Drone version 1.4.7 (newest) and I update it last month, since I bought a new mainboard for the Drone.

Is it possible for me to run the non-binairy version of the control app. as and end user to test, or do I need to have I licence from Parrot first?

  16. That seems to be a problem with some drones. Have you updated your firmware to a newer version recently?

Underneath, the drone app uses the Parrot SDK version 1.5.0, and currently I’m not sure which drone firmware versions are supported.

But it’s really difficult to debug the code offline …

  17. Edward says:

    Hi Thomas,

Sorry for my late reply (I did not receive a notification of your follow up comment in my email).

The altitude value on the main screen of 1.0.2. stays at 0, even when I fly near the ceiling.

Further on the status screen the battery status stays at 0%. But when I disconnect wifi the altitude and battery changes to N/A, so it looks like there is some input.

When there is connection, the camera status changes correct from front to bottom, but flying/hovering/emergency says false and connection is true. The input settings on top(roll, pitch etc) seems tot work properly and the flight itselves also.

    Any idea?
If you like I can send you a screendump by email.

    Thanks again!

  18. I just had a look at the binaries 1.0.2 … they seem to work with my drone.
Do you get values for the drone altitude?

  19. Edward says:

    Dear Thomas,

Yesterday I tried the binary version of Drone control (ARDrone Control .NET-1.0.2.rar) at first and it works great! It’s much better to control the Drone with a joystick on a laptop in stead of an Iphone!

The only thing it does’nt work are the aviation instruments on the control panel. Any idea how to fix that?

I use Windows 7 and I downloaded Windows SDK and DirectX SDK as you recommend.

I hope you have a solution for me?

    Thanks in advance!

    Kind regards,
    Edward van Hooff (The Netherlands)
